| Origin Story | Margo Elaine Stone was born in Savannah, Georgia to Francis and Jennifer Stone, a promising young politician and a daughter of a business mogul turned "dutiful" housewife. She was the middle child with an older brother and, eventually, a younger sister. They were beloved by their father and doted upon with uncomfortable intensity by their mother, at least until her powers started to manifest at 13. Infidelity was a regular part of her parents' marriage, a fact that had been largely shielded from the children for much of their childhood. Of course, they couldn't stay ignorant forever. Ever since her father's first campaign, Margo was forced into adorable dresses and had her pictures taken to present the image of the "perfect family". As she got older, she realized the truth was far more complex, something she pretended she was unaware of for as long as she could stomach. Every time she would put on some shorts and go play in the mud with the local boys, however, her mother would tell her to get inside, get cleaned up, and play with dolls or make girlfriends. Try as she might, she was never half as interested in dolls as she was with boys and mud. Over time, however, she developed a magnetic charisma that turned her further away from quiet pursuits and toward meeting friends. Her favorite class was gym and she would often go back for additional exercise and sport by herself after school. When her father was elected to the Senate, her family moved to Washington D.C., a transition that was difficult on her Margo since she was leaving so many friends behind in Savannah. Soon after, at the age of 12, her body began to develop faster than many of the girls in her class. She developed breasts and, as a result, excessive attention from everyone, including her teachers. One evening, while resting in her room, she wished to be flat-chested again and opened her eyes to find that her wish had come true. She experimented with her shapeshifting abilities over the following months, finding that she could mimic the appearance of anyone and everyone she encountered, but she told no one. When Margo entered High School, she met a friend named Sara who she hit it off with immediately. They became very close, close enough that Margo decided to reveal her long-kept secret. Her friend was uncomfortable at first, but eventually the two of them started thinking of all the fun they could make of it. Margo was reluctant to do anything that might expose her, especially considering her high-profile family status, but one prank seemed too good to ignore. Her freshman English teacher was a grouch of a man with a hook nose, a bloated body, and a shining bald head; all the kids hated him. Sara put together an elaborate plan to distract the teacher while Margo snuck off to the backroom, took off her school uniform, and transformed into the teacher. When she got to the classroom, she proceeded to tell the students embarrassing made up stories about the teacher and to say wildly inappropriate things; she even flirted with her boyfriend at the time while in the person of the teacher. When he returned to the classroom, everyone was extremely surprised. When the teachers started to become hysterical, fearing she was some sort of demon, Margo transformed back into her normal state, though she forgot to clothe herself. She fixed the mistake, but so much damage was already done. The rejection of her family was the hardest part of the entire fiasco. Her father and mother shamed her and made her feel incredibly unwanted for the first time in her life. She thought they might try to get rid of her, but all they really wanted to do was to forget that she was different. She tried to play along for a while, but she couldn’t deny who she was. She and Sara started drinking, hanging out with a different crowd, and using her powers along with Sara’s smarts to pull off some amazing cons. Margo even got some tattoos; they were small at first, but soon she started to fill her body with them. As a result, her mother tried to make her wear long pants and sleeves. Eventually, when she could no longer be managed, her father made arrangements with Charles Xavier that she should finish out her education with him. It was as much an attempt to get her away from her current crowd as it was a way to get an embarrassing child away from the press. |
