X-MEN: ALTERNATE CLASS is distinct from the Earth-616 universe. There may be overlap with other Marvel properties from time to time, but the primary focus is on mutants and their struggles.

In this timeline, the original team of X-Men are victims of the Legacy Virus and new mutants are discovered and recruited into the roles of X-Men. These are the stories of other mutants that were not chosen in Earth-616 but now proudly serve in the ranks of the X-MEN.
