Personality & Traits

General Overview A cheery and chipper attitude hides a depressed young man. Desmond was once the life of the party, everybody's friend, and the kid who would help out at the church bakesale on Sunday too.
He still tries to be what he used to be. But the struggles he faces with what he sees in the mirror, and what he feels in his own body has taken their toll on him. He recognises that the kindness he expressed is still within him, but it takes more effort than it did before.
Mutant Power(s) Plant-like biology: Desmond is for all intents and purposes, a walking, talking, moving tree. He is made of a very durable wood-like material.

Super-human strength: Due to the fact that his entire body is now formed out of a material far stronger than human muscle, Desmond's strength has increased substantially. In a controlled environment Desmond has been able to lift up to 2000 lbs.

Super-human durability: For the same token of his strength, Desmond's durability has increased dramatically too. His skin is tough enough to ignore any regular human's punch or kick. Most conventional firearms can punch through his skin, and get lodged within his 'trunk'. They don't really harm him, but would need to be removed afterwards or it will have long term side effects.

Healing factor: Desmond can regrow just about any limb. His mutation has removed any and all vital organs, including his nervous system. His body has developed a hyper-effective form of photosynthesis that feeds and nourishes him.

Accelerated growth: Desmond has discovered that he can force his limbs to grow in shapes other than those of a human. His first, and so far only, expression of this, was when he turned his hand into large shield-like shape to protect his youngest sister from rocks being thrown at her.

Mutant Mastery X-2

Origin Story Desmond grew up in New Haven, Connecticut to Richard and Ellie Greene. His father is a corporate lawyer for Fisk Industries in NYC. His mother is a dedicated housekeeper, deeply involved with various charities throughout New Haven, an active member of their Church, and involved with the PTA for her three kids.

Desmond has been a doting brother the moment his parents brought his first sister home. Desmond was always the one who wanted to hold her, help feed her, and even help change diapers. He played with them all the time, walked them all to school, and later drove them. He was there for their musical recitals, their dance recitals, and watched the school plays.

He was there, in part, because their father wasn't Richard is a very busy man, who during the work week stays in New York City. He also often doesn't come home during the weekends either. So Desmond has learned how to be a man by the absence of his father.

Desmond's mutation took hold of him when he had just turned 18. Just after Spring Break started Desmond didn't wake up in the morning. He had fallen into a coma. The family doctor had been called, and Desmond was quickly admitted to the local hospital. There they were stumped. The boy looked like he was breathing, but they couldn't find a heartbeat. His skin had grown taught and hard too. They kept him for observation. When they checked on Desmond in the morning, his skin had torn apart, revealing a hard, bark-like skin underneath. When they checked his pupils, they saw that his eyes were transformed too. The whole mutation took 24 hours at best.

Desmond awoke the day after his mutation had completed. What he saw made him wish he hadn't woken up. Desmond hated what he saw, like someone had carved his face into the a block of wood.

His parents, through their connections managed to get Desmond to graduate early from High School. But Desmond hadn't been to school since he had mutated.

After Thanksgiving, that year, had heard from friends that in New York there was a special school. A place for people like Desmond to learn more about themselves and what happened to them. It took a lot of convincing, but eventually Desmond attended the Xavier Institute.
