Personality & Traits

General Overview Mari is a bit difficult to figure out. She is friendly and cheerful, but doesn’t often smile and has difficulty making friends. She sometimes wants to be the center of attention and others just wants to be alone. While she’s talking, she rarely makes eye contact, but while listening, never looks away. She can forgive offences towards her almost immediately, but hurt someone she loves and she will hold that grudge long after everyone else has completely forgotten about it. She absolutely adores kids, but has no desire for any of her own. She loves sports, and also spends a lot of time playing trumpet. She is one of the biggest advocates of music education while she herself taught elementary school physical education. Nobody really understands her, but she doesn’t seem to mind that at all.
Mutant Power(s) Super strength: Mari can lift anything of any weight. She has even ripped trees out of the ground by their roots. This has even given her a punch and kick powerful enough to send a man three times her size flying through the air.
Profession(s) Teacher: physical education

Mutant Mastery X-1

Origin Story Marisol Annette Pritchard was born to Jennifer Pritchard, a single mother in rural Michigan. She was named for her mother’s childhood best friend and a cousin who had passed away several years prior. Her mother met Miguel Cabral when Mari was only 2 years old, so she does not remember her life without him in it. When she was five years old, her mother and Miguel married and only a year later, Miguel officially adopted her, making her Marisol Cabral. This has caused confusion as hearing her name makes people expect a Latina, but she has never minded that at all.

Miguel and Jennifer had two sons together, who Mari absolutely adored from the moment she laid eyes on them. As the only daughter, though, Miguel doted on her as if she were his own. He insisted on throwing her a Quinceñera complete with extravagant gifts- the biggest of which was a Bach Stradivarius trumpet she has treasured to this day.

She spent a lot of time in various sports, including track, cross country, volleyball, and gymnastics, while also being active in her school’s Marching Band, even landing the spot of drum major her junior year.

Through it all, though, she only had two or three friends, which seemed to suit her just fine. She was never afraid to do things by herself- she had no close friends in band- and was often found working by herself. This worried her parents slightly, but as she seemed happy and healthy, they tried not to think about it.

When her powers began to develop, she was forced to learn how to temper them so as to not raise suspicion. This required her to drop volleyball as she kept spiking the ball too hard. The final straw was when she put a dent in the floor and popped the ball at the same time. But as this was around the same time she made drum major of the marching band, nobody really thought too much of it.

But she couldn’t hide it from her dad. He spotted the change almost immediately. But, as her mother was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer around the same time, they opted to keep it from her to reduce the stress and allow her to focus on treatment. Unfortunately, the cancer claimed her life when Mari was 14.

After high school, she went to a local university so she could stay home with her family. At first, she majored in music education, but switched to physical education after one semester. Music school was demanding and exhausting and she was beginning to resent her trumpet. Luckily for her, she recognized burnout before experiencing it and was able to head it off.

Upon graduating, she was able to find a job with a nearby school district as the elementary phys ed teacher. This posting lasted a little under two years when her abilities were discovered on a field trip when a life threatening situation forced her to drag a bus back onto the road. To protect her father and brothers, she left home, headed for a place where nobody knew her and she might be able to start fresh.
