EPISODE 7: "Pathogens and Contagions" begins

April 9, 1991 - The Alternate Class and the students of Xavier’s return to the renovated mansion in Westchester, New York.

January 29, 1991 - Alaric, the Alternate Class, and X-Factor all work together to tackle Sinister’s forces at Kamar-Taj. Securing the city, they use the only known portal to Limbo to allow Alaric to return and free his people. Venturing to Limbo on his own, Alaric finally accesses the full potential of his mutant and magical abilities, including the use of his demonic Limbo side known as Dark Fang. Alaric defeats the remaining soldiers and guards of Belasco before beheading the wizard with the soulsword. With the wizard’s death all the prisoners of Limbo are freed, including the land itself. Clan Askani is brought through the portal, including Lorna who is reunited with the rest of the First Class.

With Kamar-Taj freed from Sinister’s occupation and Clan Askani returned to Earth, Lorna decides to stay in the hidden city with her people. Their magical knowledge thanks to living in Limbo make Clan Askani and ideal choice for protecting the magical city. It is decided that Alaric will return with the X-Men, where he will learn about Earth, his abilities, and most importantly develop a relationship with his father and step-mother.

The X-Men return to Muir where they will stay while the mansion is repaired.

January 21, 1991 - Scott Summer and Jean Grey are married at the mansion in an extravagant and heartfelt ceremony but the celebration is cut short when Alex Summers arrives and attacks the entire school in an act of vengeance. Using the relic he stole from The Machine on Genosha, his abilities are amplified and his attacks are hard hitting. His attack is made worse thanks to the arrival of sentinels and Shinobi Shaw. Using intel provided by Sinister, Shinobi arrives with the goal of stealing the relic from Alex in an effort to gain Sinister’s favor. Shinobi brings his latest and greatest Omega Sentinel with him, a man with metal claws known simply as Logan.

The sentinel attack only adds to the collateral damage on the mansion and its grounds, leaving a large portion of the school destroyed. The Alternate Class work together to take down the sentinels and Jean Grey uses the same technology used to free Warren from the Omega programing. Meanwhile, Alaric shows he is part of the Summers family and is immune to Alex’s attacks. An advantage that is completely unexpected, Alaric uses it to gain the upperhand and takes the relic from Alex. In the aftermath, Shinobi flees with Alex’s body as a gift to offer Sinister.

In Alaric’s hands the relic is more than a simple power source, it is an item known as the soulsword. A weapon bound to Belasco’s soul and his magical abilities. Welding the sword Alaric is now strong enough to defeat the powerful wizard and free Clan Askani from Limbo.

January 13, 1991 - Kurt Wagner attempts to find his missing teenage sweetheart and friend, Wanda Maximoff (aka The Scarlet Witch). Wanada went missing when she attempted to locate the missing First Class on her own. Leaning into the mystical over the scientific, the last letter to Kurt mentioned her exploration of a mystical city, Kamar-Taj. Shortly after Wanad’s disappearance, Kurt began his own research into locating the hidden city of Kamar-Taj. A thing of legends written by ancient scribes. With the help of the Alternate Class, Kurt travels from ancient location to ancient location following a scavenger hunt of clues and relic collections in hopes of learning the location of Kamar-Taj.In the end, Kurt is successful and fabricates a mystical key the shows him the location of Kamar-Taj deep in the Himalayas.

With the help of X-Factor, Kurt ventures to Kamar-Taj and discovers that in addition to its magical wards of protection the city is also occupied by none other than Sinister's forces. Using stealth and speed, Kurt and Pietro breach the city and find a strange portal in the heart of the city that is activities by the key Kurt created. On hope and a prayer, Kurt opens the portal and ventures inside in hopes of finding Wanda.

Kurt discovers that the portal is to Limbo and Wanda is not present in the alternate dimension. Instead, he discovers a group of mutants known as Clan Askani. Ruled by a woman named Mother Askani, the clan is a hidden rebellion fighting against Beleasco’s rule. The individuals who make up the clan are civilians who were dragged to Limbo during the attack on Genosha several weeks ago. Thanks to the passing of time moving much faster, Clan Askani is now a long standing and large group of rebels.

Kurt befriends Clan Askani and learns that Mother Askani is Lorna Danes (aka Polaris). Pulled into Limbo as a teenager almost 6 months ago, she is now an elder who created the Clan Askani after escaping Belasco’s court. Thanks to the Phoenix Force’s interdimensional attack, Lorna was able to flee from Belasco’s control to take refuge in an ancient temple where she would remain hidden from his forces. When she fled, Lorna brought Aurora’s child with her. Now known as Alaric Thane, he’s a man in his early twenties who was raised in the dark magic of Limbo.

Alaric agrees to return to Earth with Kurt in hopes of finding a way to liberate Clan Askani. When Kurt leaves Kamar-Taj and reunites with X-Factor, Jean discovers that Alaric is in fact Scott’s child with Aurora. The moment turns into an impromptu family reunion as Scott and Alaric meet one another for the first time.

December 10, 1990 - In the aftermath of Genosha’s downfall, Magneto claims the island for himself as retribution for the acts against mutants that occurred here. Despite his claims as ruler he allows the Alternate Class to remain and help with aid for the mutants of Genosha while they wait for the First Class to arrive and bring them home. But upon the First Class’s arrival a huge explosion goes off inside The Flesh Factory as The Machine melts down thanks to its strange power source being taken. The explosion not only brings destruction to the island but an eerie portal opens up in that sky. The X-Men have seen this portal once before, in the Savage Land. As the sky turns blood red they know it is an inferno event, a gate to Limbo has been opened by the wizard Belasco and the hellish creatures of that dimension have arrived. Magneto flees and leaves the X-Men to tackle hell on earth on their own.

At the heart of the Limbo attack is Aurora, now known as the Goblin Queen. Her time in Limbo has twisted her into an evil and cruel ruler who shows no mercy to the X-Men. The Goblin Queen asks one question of the X-Men, where is the relic that once powered The Machine?

When she is told that it was taken and is missing, the Goblin Queen’s attacks are rage fueled and brutal as she tells all the X-Men how badly they failed her. Combined with her army of goblins and Belasco’s finest generals the attack from Limbo is a harsh one. The Alternate Class and First Class work together to slow the attack and save as many civilians as possible but the Limbo army is too much and many people are captured and dragged into Limbo, including the mutant known as Windrider and Victor Creed. Cyclops eventually tells the teams to fall back and abandon Genosha, the attacks are too much and they have lost.

As the teams load into the Blackbird, Jean remains behind to ensure the boats filled with civilians and the jet can get away. Alone on the island she hears the call of the Phoenix Force inside of her, it is disgusted by the corruption and destruction that Belasco has administered on Genosha and it tells her to burn and cleanse this place. Hesitant at first, Jean finally submits to the Phoenix’s request and she ignites in cosmic flames. From afar, the X-Men watch as a bird of fire appears around Jean before attacking the island. The flames are unworldly and violent in nature as the entire island is turned into a barren wasteland of ash. Cosmic fire fills every portal opening to Limbo and Belasco’s army is burned until the magic opening the portals is lost. Before the Phoenix can continue its regin of fire, Scott reaches out to Jean and telepathically calms and soothes her. Jean regains her composure and is able to stop the Phoenix Force from it’s wrathful attacks.

With Genosha burned to the ground and the portals to Limbo closed, the X-Men return home. During the flight back to New York, Connor discovers that his speech talking device has been hacked and bugged, allowing someone to listen to everything he said to the team. Alex Summers repaired and returned the device to Connor while he was imprisoned in The Flesh Factory and the connection was finally made. Alex Summers was the mole feeding the Genegineer all of the rebel’s secrets. Him missing from the final battle and the loss of the relic powering The Machine suddenly makes even more sense, Alex was using the rebel attack as a way to execute his own covert mission. Still missing and his motives unknown, the team takes a break for the holidays while wondering what Alex has planned.

December 9, 1990 - Connor has the X-Men and rebels haul a large amount of explosives to the telemetry station located in the mountains of Genosha that connects to The Flesh Factory. Due to its rough and remote mountain location the telemetry station isn’t as heavily guarded. The trek inside The Flesh Factory to the lab and prison cells will be longer from this location but the use of explosives to get in will prevent the Genegineer from immediately closing the location and the loss of his satellites and telemetry system will prevent him from hiding Genosha from the rest of the world.

The X-Men are successful in breaching the telemetry lab and destroying it but they are greeted by a brainwashed Ty and Kurt who have been turned into attack dogs thanks to a revised version of the power suppressing collars they had all worn when they were initially captured. Brainless soldiers, they attack their former friends while the Genegineer calls in his elite guards.

The X-Men manage to remove the collars from Ty and Kurt, freeing them from their mindless attacks but the armed guard response is too great from them to respond to. It’s at this moment they hear jets arriving outside of the city and Connor is reminded that The Professor would send reinforcements in five days. But the reinforcements are not who they expect them to be. The Brotherhood and Magneto arrive and begin a brutal attack on the soldiers of the Genegineer. Magneto had been watching Genosha and when the telemetry station went down he took immediate advantage of the situation. Thanks to his arrival and the brute force of the Brotherhood, they conquer Genosha and capture the Genegineer.

December 8, 1990 - Traveling on foot and from different directions, the X-Men finally regroup at a small rebel camp in the mountains outside of the city. Once reunited, they learn that the main rebel camp in the jungle was attacked at the same time as they attacked The Flesh Factory. Lately there are too many situations where the Genegineer is one step ahead of them and this is beyond dumb luck or coincidence. There is a spy amongst the rebels.

Fingers are pointed and the blame passed from person to person; Is it Victor Creed, who appears to be in the heart of every attack that occurs? Or John Proudstar, who is always missing when he’s needed the most? Maybe it’s Alex Summers, who is always lucky enough to get away?

In the end, Connor decided to plan their next mission and he will do so in private. This prevents any of the three rebels from knowing what comes next. The goals and timeline for the next attack on the Flesh Factory will be a surprise to everyone but the leader of the X-Men. The rebels agree to this, all appear to want the Genegineer to fall.

December 7, 1990 - The X-Men along with the rebels of Genosha steal a train and attack The Flesh Factory but their plans are once again thwarted by the Genegineer who appears to have known about their attack. The team is successful in destroying the communications hub and freeing Maeve but have to flee when Wind Rider appears and prevents them from proceeding with their original plan of taking down the Genegineer. The X-Men and rebels are forced to scatter and run in different directions in order to survive.

December 7, 1990 - Meanwhile, three Earth years have passed for Aurora in the hellscape dimension of Limbo. She now wears the crown and title Goblin Queen where she rules her court with a cruel and merciless degree of power. Christopher is now a toddler and remains her greatest strength and her greatest weakness. Sinister summons to the only known portal between and Limbo, here he tells her that she needs to prepare for a mission back to Earth and to a remote island known as Genosha. Her directive is simple: bring back the cube that powers The Machine or Christopher will be harmed.

December 6, 1990 - While the X-Men are investigating Genosha, X-Factor is attempting to solve the murder of Senator Robert Kelly. Kelly’s assignation allowed for the rapid execution of the Mutant Registration Act and the two events feel like more than a coincidence. Bobby and Pietro follow a trail of evidence that takes them from Boston, to Arizona, to the MRD’s house of records in Washington DC. Once inside the MRD, they meet a doctor by the name of Cecilia Reyes. She decides to help Bobby and Pietro despite the trouble she will get into because she agrees that what happened with Kelly was wrong. The records for a specialty gun that was issued to a mutant are found at the MRD along with the mutant’s home address.

The mutant who was issued the gun is Neena Thurman, who is part of a government agency that recruits imprisoned mutants to execute dangerous black ops missions. When confronted she admits that she was instructed to murder Senator Kelly in order to push congress to vote ‘yes’ on the Mutant Registration Act. As a form of repayment for her honesty, Bobby and Pietro take Neena to Asteroid M where she can escape prosecution and punishment for confirming the government murdered the senator.

December 5, 1990 - The X-Men and the Rebels of Genosha form a plan for how to free the mutant slaves. There is a very strong soldier presence in Genosha that is managed by the omega level mutant known as Wind Rider. To free the slaves they need to disrupt and eliminate the military’s ability to respond to attacks before they infiltrate the most important building in Genosha, The Flesh Factory.

It is determined that destroying Genosha’s transit system and their communication hub is the best way to slow and silence military response. In order to do that they need to steal a train and get inside the main transit station in the basement of The Flesh Factory. Once inside, they will destroy the critical operations points before going after The Genegineer himself.

December 4, 1990 - The X-Men are informed that Ty Johson (aka Cloak) and his partner Tandy Bowmen (aka Dagger) are missing. They vanished a few days ago without informing the Fallen Angels and the Beat Street Club. This behavior is not normal for them and the Fallen Angels are worried that something has happened to him. Unable to locate Cloak with Cerebro, the X-Men trace Cloak’s darkforce energy expulsions to an island off the coast of Africa named Genosha. Genosha is a very secretive and lucrative location that willfully isolates itself from the rest of the world. The X-Men decided they will need to covertly infiltrate Genosha in order to find their missing friend. The Professor drops them off outside of Genosha, once they get in all communication with him will be lost. He tells them that if they don’t return in five days time, reinforcements will arrive.

The X-Men are immediately discovered open entry into Genosha and are taken down by a Genosha soldier with weather manipulating abilities known as Wind Rider. Knocked unconscious and subdued with the use of power suppression collars, the X-Men are divided into two groups for intake in Genosha’s mutant slave labor forces.

One group of X-Men is delivered to a location titled The Flesh Factory, a horrible lab where mutants are experimented on by a scientist known as the Genegineer. Using a large experimental device known as “The Machine” he is able to evaluate and review their genome for experimental purposes. The act of being examined by The Machine is incredibly painful and all subjects notice that it is powered by a strange cube that is an otherworldly type of energy.

Following their initial exams, the X-Men are imprisoned inside the Flesh Factory. Their escape seems impossible until a guard within the facility frees them. Much to their surprise the guard is none other than Alex Summers (aka Havok) the final missing member of the First Class of X-Men. Following his disappearance at Krakoa, he was taken to Genosha where he has been forming a rebellion against the Genegineer and his use of mutant slaves. Originally in The Flesh Factory for intel purposes, he recognizes Connor as an X-Men and returns his speech device to him before he frees the team and takes them to his rebel camp hidden in the jungles of Karkoa.

Meanwhile, the second group of X-Men find themselves in the freightcar of a train that is taking them to a location outside the capitol. Each member is tagged with a colored label that signifies what division of slave training they have been assigned to and the train is taking them to the reconditioning center in preparation for their future assignments. While on the train they are forced to consume a sweet, white paste known as “sugar”. A drug created by the Genegineer to keep the mutant slaves dazed and compliant. Loving called “The Sugarman” by the slaves of Genosha, they consume the drug happily before slipping into a euphoric state that allows them to be easily manipulated and handled by the soldiers running the camp where reconditioning occurs.

Maeve does not willingly comply with their intake process and she is placed in a hot box on the edge of the camp as punishment. While screaming in her box, the prison in the box next to her recognizes her voice. It is Tandy in the box next to her, who tells Maeve that she and Ty were taken from New York City and separated upon arrival in Genosha. She has been in the reconditioning camp for a few days and has picked up on the buzz around camp that the rebel forces will be attacking soon.

During the intake process at the camp it is discovered that Kurt Wagner (aka Nightcrawler) is a teleporter which changes his fate completely. He is pulled from his original assignment as slave labor in the mines of Genosha to be taken to The Flesh Factory.

But the second team’s time in the camp is short-lived as the rebel forces attack and free the slaves housed there. Their leader is a large golden haired man named Victor Creed. A brutal and hardnosed man, he attacks and kills Genosha soldiers without mercy but their time in liberating the camp is cut short thanks to additional soldiers being present. It appears Genosha was informed of the rebel’s attack ahead of time and they were prepared, causing the X-Men to just barely be able to flee with Victor. Maeve is unable to flee with the rest of the team, her location is unknown.

Reunited at the rebel base, the X-Men agree to help them liberate the slaves of Genosha along with finding Maeve, Ty, and Kurt.

December 3, 1990 - Sinister brings Aurora to a secret lab where he divulges to her that she was created by him for the sole purpose of seducing Scott Summers. Her appearance and arrival at the Mansion was all designed by him with the intent of her becoming pregnant with Scott’s child. Now that she has returned to him, his only interest is collecting the child in her womb. Through a forced c-section Aurora gives birth to a son who she names Christopher Summers.

Sinister reviews Christopher’s DNA and determines he is lacking for whatever plan he was created for. Rather than waste the child, Sinister decides to send him to the magical realm known as Limbo where he appears to have some control over its ruler. Ruled by an evil wizard named Belasco, Limbo is another dimension where time passes faster than on Earth. Sinister gives Belasco the baby with the intent of rapidly aging him while promising him as an heir to Belasco’s kingdom. Although hesitant at first, Belasco agrees to take the child, and eventually Aurora to raise him, to Limbo.

Aurora finds herself titled as the Regina Mater of Limbo and her child is the heir apparent, which gives her a position of power within Limbo including an army of goblin minions. A green haired woman titled the Clave Askani is provided as her guide for adjusting to life in Limbo. Aurora learns that the woman is Lorna Dane (aka Polaris) who was pulled into Limbo during an event in the Savage Land several months ago. Thanks to the strange passage of time in Limbo, Lorna is much older now and has lived as a slave of Belasco her entire life. Together they navigate Aurora’s new position in Limbo while raising her son.

December 2, 1990 - Scott and Jean show Aurora their home in New York City before flying to Aurora’s prenatal exam on Muir Island. The entire evening with Scott and Jean leaves Aurora feeling insecure and uncertain about her ability to raise a child on her own while Scott and Jean live an idealistic life in the city together. Later that night during an intense storm on Muir, Mr. Sinister visits Aurora and tempts her to flee with him. Playing into her fears and providing her with promises of grandeur and family, she leaves with him. Someone has reactivated his former Citadel there and is using a weapon he had devised to bring the world to its knees. His gradual loss of power is a side effect. He has requested the X-Men's aid in bringing it down because he does not wish to appear weak before the Brotherhood or the denizens of Asteroid M. Professor Xavier agrees to send the X-Men with him in exchange for handing Rev. William Stryker over to human authorities. Scott Summers tracks down the Telford "The Vanisher" Porter through the aid of Jessica Jones of Alias Investigations and secures his help in getting to the island of Krakoa. When the X-Men arrive at McMurdo Station on the edge of Antarctica, they encounter a Savage Land Mutate who had slain most of the researchers there. They activate the satellite array to push through the radiation in the area, allowing the Brotherhood transport ship to enter the heart of the Savage Land, but not before a powered-up Zaladane appears and warns them to turn back.
